Imigongo Handcraft Wall Decor

This unique and beautiful art of paint is made with wooden plaque and pigment paint. Years ago, there once was a prince who decided to decorate his house by molding geometric shapes onto the wall of hut. This technique was developed and now made by women. Often in the colors black, white, red, but increasingly other colors are use. popular themes include spiral and geometric designs that are painted on walls, pottery, and canvas.

The images are produced using natural mixture dough which is put onto wooden boards in spiral and geometric designs. The dough is used on a wooden plaque by hand to obtain the desire pattern. This is left to harden for days and then decorated using color made from organic dye material.
